The Fantrax draft room

Slow drafts only work when nobody sits on the clock. Your queue and the Auto-Draft settings make your pick on time whether you are there or not. Here is what each one does, and how to set them for where you pick and how long you are away.

How it works

What the clock does

FBI drafts are slow drafts: 6 hours a pick in the World Cup, 7 in the JLFB Bowl. You don't need to be at a screen at a set time, but when your clock runs out Fantrax picks for you.

It takes the top available player in your queue. If the queue is empty it falls back to your pre-rankings, and with none of those it takes the best player on Fantrax's own list that fits your roster.

Set the queue

Open the Draft Room from the green link in Fantrax's top menu and find the Queue tab.

Hit the queue icon next to a player's name to add him, and drag to reorder. A player who gets drafted drops out of your queue on his own, so the top name is always the one you get.

How deep to queue

Every pick between now and the last pick you want covered can take one of your names. Queue one name for each of those, plus one for each of your own picks Auto-Draft is making. Then one of yours is always left.

Covering your next pick with seven picks ahead of you: eight names. Covering two back-to-back picks with four ahead of you: six.

Order matters more than length. Best first, and recount after every pick.

The Auto-Draft settings

They sit under Auto-Draft in the draft room. None of them has one right answer; it depends on where you pick and how long you're away.

Auto-draft

How many of your picks Fantrax makes for you, each the moment you're on the clock, before it switches itself off.

Match it to the picks you'll miss. Away for one pick, 1: it makes that pick and stops, so nothing fires when it comes back round. On the turn, where your two picks come back to back, 2 covers the pair. Higher only if you'll miss more, and only with a queue deep enough for all of them.

Auto-draft from Queue only

On, Auto-Draft only ever takes a player you queued. Off, once your queue runs dry it picks from a list instead.

Keep it on when your queue covers every pick you've handed over. Turn it off when you're away for several picks and have pre-ranked, so your rankings pick once the queue runs out.

Fill active slots first

Takes the highest queued player who fits an open starting slot before one who'd only go to your bench.

Useful while you're still building a starting lineup. Turn it off if you queued in the exact order you want and a bench pick is fine.

Draft from Queue to Reserve if no Active slot fits

When none of your queued players fit a starting slot, this lets Auto-Draft put one on your bench anyway. Off, it passes on them.

Early on every queued player fits somewhere, so it barely matters. Late in the draft, with your starters full, turn it on or your queue has nowhere to go.

Auto-draft Order

The list Auto-Draft picks from when it isn't held to your queue: Average Draft Position, or your own pre-rankings.

ADP is the room's consensus. If you've ranked players yourself, point it at yours.

Match it to where you pick

In a snake the gap between your picks depends on your slot, and that decides both numbers. Using a 12-team draft:

On the turn (1st or 12th)

Your picks come in pairs, back to back, with 22 picks between each pair.

Away for the pair: Auto-draft 2, and queue the picks ahead of you plus two. Already on the clock: two names, best first, and you're done for a while.

Next to the turn (2nd or 11th)

One way round only two picks sit between yours, while the manager on the turn takes his pair. The other way round it is twenty.

Coming into the short gap, three names and Auto-draft 1 covers you. If you'll miss both that pick and the one after the long gap, set Auto-draft 2, but count the long gap in your queue too.

Middle of the round (say 6th)

Ten to twelve picks sit between each of yours.

Auto-draft 1 with eleven to thirteen names covers one pick. That's a lot to queue, so it's easier to set it once you're on deck and the count is down to a few.

Away for a day or more

Set Auto-draft to the number of your picks you will miss and count every pick up to the last of them. That gets long fast, so pre-rank, point Auto-draft Order at your rankings, and turn Queue only off so they take over once the queue runs out.

Pre-rank before it starts

Rank Players, in the league menu, sets the order Fantrax falls back to when your queue runs dry or your clock runs out. Ten minutes on it before the draft opens means a missed pick is still roughly your pick.

Draft etiquette

Fantrax tells you when you're on deck. Have the next name ready and take your pick when it comes round.

If you'll be away for the length of your clock, leave a queue and Auto-Draft on. Taking the full timer on every pick stretches a draft across weeks, and it's the one thing the chat complains about every season.

Stuck in a draft?

Ask in your league’s chat on the FBI Discord. A commissioner can see the draft room from their side and sort it from there.
